The Heart Behind Slaydon & Rose

When I look back, I can still see the little girl sitting on her bedroom floor in Church Point, Louisiana — surrounded by paper, colored pencils, and a model form stencil my mom had given me. I’d spend hours sketching dresses, cutting out shapes, and dreaming about beautiful things.

I wasn’t much of an artist (I still laugh about that), but I knew deep down that I wanted to create clothing that made women feel special. Even then, the dream was tucked in my heart.

I grew up in a pastor’s home where faith wasn’t just something we talked about — it was the foundation of everything we did. Sundays were filled with church services, laughter, and the familiar hum of fellowship. From a young age, I learned that beauty isn’t about standing out — it’s about shining from within. That lesson stayed with me long after I left home and found my way into the world of fashion.

Years later, after earning my degree in Fashion Merchandising and working in retail, life took a few turns. Marriage, motherhood, and moves shaped my story in ways I never could’ve planned. There were seasons of pause — moments when I wondered if that little girl’s dream had quietly faded away.

But the truth is, God doesn’t forget what He plants in your heart.

In 2016, after months of prayer and hesitation, I finally took a leap of faith and opened Slaydon & Rose. It began as a small online boutique — born out of equal parts courage, calling, and coffee. I wanted to make modest fashion easy — something women could shop confidently from home, without compromise.

The name Slaydon & Rose carries deep meaning. It’s a tribute to my grandmothers — two women who shaped not only my sense of style but my understanding of grace.

Mawmaw Green, Frankie Lou Slaydon-Green, taught me that quality never goes out of style. She sewed her own clothing, choosing fabrics carefully and creating pieces that lasted.
Grandma Pavlu, Rose Aline Pavlu, showed me that you can work hard and still hold onto beauty. After long days in the factory, she’d buy herself a new dress — not because she needed it, but because it made her feel lovely.

Their lessons remind me daily that modesty isn’t about restriction — it’s about intention. It’s about dressing in a way that reflects confidence, faith, and self-respect.

I believe every woman deserves to feel beautiful and appropriately dressed — whether she’s chasing toddlers, teaching a classroom, or worshipping on Sunday morning.

Slaydon & Rose has grown in ways that still humble me. There have been challenges and changes — times when I didn’t know what would come next — but through every season, God has been faithful.

And lately, I’ve felt that same quiet stirring I did as a little girl sketching dresses on my bedroom floor… a reminder that the dream is still alive and unfolding.

There’s more to this story — something I can’t wait to share with you soon.

But for now, I simply want to say thank you.
Thank you for being here, for believing in modesty, and for walking this journey with me.

Because Slaydon & Rose isn’t just about clothing.
It’s about community.
It’s about faith.
And it’s about celebrating the beauty that comes when we choose grace over trends and confidence over comparison.

With love and gratitude,
Layna 💕
